- All activities and sub-committees of the SSA in Aizawl District are supervised by the District Education Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Aizawl and implemented through the Office of the District Project Coordinator.
- District Planning and Development through DRDA in general and co-ordinates with other development departments in various development activities.
- Implementation of MPLADS, both of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and the Deputy Commissioner, Aizawl is the Nodal Officer for the whole State in respect to MPLADS, including verification/ recommendation/ inspection of Societies and Associations for MPLADS and disbursal of Grant-in-Aid from Govt. of India.
- Administration as well as enforcement of law and order within the District. The District Magistrate is the Registrar under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 and all cases which fall under this Act are taken up by him.
- All matters relating to Magistrates and conduct of Inquiries by Magistrates, as well as grant of permission for public activities, issuance of Scheduled Caste/Tribe, Residential, Birth and Death Certificates, Income Certificates and Hailing Certificates etc.
- Dealing of complaints from individuals, organisations and Departments on various issues pertaining to land encroachment, unauthorised quarrying, fake banking and dumping of soil and debris, and other cases which are civil in nature. Such complaints are disposed and settled by issuing instruction/prohibitory order as the case may be, after conducting spot verification or proper investigation by the Magistrate.
- During instances of law and order situations, detailment of Magistrate and proper security arrangement etc. are taken by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner.
- Conducting magisterial enquiry in cases of custodial death and other cases of unnatural death, the cases of which is found fit for enquiry. Post Mortem exemptions are also permitted on certain cases where there is no likelihood of involvement of any foul play and that too on the request of a victim’s family/relative. Correspondence of all kinds with regard to magisterial enquiry to the offices of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Home Department etc. are dealt with by this Office.
- Conduct Elections to Members of Parliament, Mizoram Legislative Assembly, Aizawl Municipal Corporation, Local Council/Village Council including Bye-Elections. Including conduct of Revisions of Electoral Rolls i.e Intensive, Summary, Special Summary as the case may be from time to time, updating of Electoral Rolls throughout the year between the revision of Electoral Rolls, issuance of Electors Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) to all eligible voters.
- All cases of acquisition of private lands and buildings for public purposes within Aizawl District. Initiation of action for physical demarcation of the land to be acquired including counting of standing crops/ plants within the stipulated period from the date of publishing of Notice u/s 4 (1) of the Land Acquisition Act, 1894 for acquisition of land by the Government.
- Conducting of physical verification and assessment of properties likely to be damaged as a result of construction/ extension of roads, etc. for the purpose of awarding compensations to land/property owners.
- Carrying out physical verification of lands and buildings occupied by Security Forces and works out the fair rent so that payment of rental charges may be paid to the land owners.
- Fixation and re-fixation of fair rent in respect of buildings occupied or proposed to be occupied by various Government Departments for offices or staff quarters, etc.
- Issuance of fresh Arms License, Arms Repairing Licenses, NPB Arms and Ammunitions Dealers Licenses as per approval of Home Department, Govt. of Mizoram.
- Maintenance of Record and Registers of Arms License separately for different categories.
- Issuance of Explosives License (possession for own use) to stone Quarry owners, Contractors, NGOs and different Govt. Agencies.
- Renewal of Arms Licenses, Issue of Permit for purchase of Arms to Arms License holders, Permit for purchase of Ammunitions, Permit for Carrying of Arms, Issue of Duplicate Licenses and License for Retainer of Arms.
- Regulation the entry and stay of non-indigenous persons within Aizawl District by issuing ILPs as per Guidelines issued by the Govt. of Mizoram from time to time. Cancellation of ILP is carried out upon judgment & order of the courts and spot verification reports when complaints are received.
- Recovery of loans by issuing Notice to defaulters for timely repayment at frequent intervals for effecting recovery of outstanding amount. A quarterly report indicating the progress of recovery made are submitted to the Government.
- Relief and rehabilitation of victims of Natural Calamity, giving immediate relief in the form of financial assistance, disbursement of materials like GCI sheets and Silpaulin sheets etc. Whenever any natural calamities occur at any place within the district, Officers are detailed for spot verification and hands out aid to victims based on the reports of the Officers.
- Preparation of District Disaster Management Plan which is monitored by the District Control Room.
- Implementing the scheme of Socio Economic & Caste census with National Population Register and the on-going BME (Aadhar) as per Govt. instruction from time to time.
